The new health direction“ This hospital is geared to be a smart digital hospital— end to end. EMR, patient journey monitoring with SIMETRIS etc. system is already in place and our hospital App is underway,” said dr Martha M. L Siahaan SH, MARS, MH. Kes, the Ministry of Health’ s new Director of Health, to Global Health Asia-Pacific recently.
Dr Martha assumed her role in August 2024 and will be responsible for spearheading and overseeing the overall expansion of RS Kemenkes Surabaya into a technology-driven hospital hub. As the former CEO of RS Premier Bintaro, she brings with her more than a decade of leadership and management.
“ We are set to operate in early 2025. The cardiac and neuro facility is already undergoing training for Centre of Excellent( CoE) certification, national accreditation is underway, and we’ re heavily recruiting to complete the current workforce,” Dr Martha said. Currently, 72 specialists and doctors are set to come on board in April through July, with the Medical Rehab Therapy clinic, Pharmacy Unit, and other subunits still in recruitment. The hospital will run at a capacity of 772 beds.
“ MOH and I are in agreement that we need to move away from the traditional stigma of Indonesian healthcare. We need the best talents and brains to elevate the status of a government hospital. It won’ t change overnight, and it will be a long process, but I’ m positive that I have the Ministry’ s full support. We are also committed to serve BPJS patients with excellent services,” Dr Martha said, while also sharing the hospital’ s plans for AI and technology-backed medical equipment.
Big data, the big issue Collecting health information, sharing data, and integrating healthcare are essential if hospitals are to deliver quality and equitable healthcare. Security and privacy of data are also critical since the data must be accessed from multiple locations within the distributed system.“ This is where my biggest concern lies. Granted, it is a universal issue, not just in Indonesia. But for healthcare, it is more so as the patients are our utmost priority. The Ministry and I will undoubtedly have a thorough and strategic action plan to put in place in order to protect the hospital from data leaks,” said Dr Martha.
Healthcare systems need to collect real-time biomedical data( e. g., ECG, pulse oximetry, and blood pressure) in different places. For example, on mobile phones, a healthcare application can be installed to allow health data to be synchronised for analysis and storage by a cloud computing system. And in Indonesia’ s case— it’ s the SatuSehat, an MOH-mandated EMR system and platform that will be integrated with and interoperate with all of the country’ s medical institutions.
Dr Martha sees her role as not only running a hospital to the best of her abilities but also assisting the MOH and the country offer the best integrated healthcare service to its people under the most secure conditions.
“ I want to be able to see that this new government hospital runs as advanced as RS Premier, as a Bintaro and Premier Jatinegara, with the best patient-care service as Mount Elizabeth Singapore and the safest security protection as Apple. I have big hopes,” she said optimistically.
