SJMC is one of the few hospitals in Malaysia that publish data about treatment outcomes to show its success rates
SMC , the hospital staff will take care of every detail of the journey , such as picking the right doctor , processing visas , airport pick-up , accommodations , and language translation .
It ’ s no surprise then that SJMC has been seeing double-digit growth in its medical tourism revenue and patient numbers . “ Our goal is to grow by 30 percent from 2019 to 2025 , and so far we are on track ,” he said . Most international patients hail from Indonesia , the major medical tourism market for Malaysia , but a growing number of patients from Cambodia , Vietnam , and Laos are also checking in at SJMC .
The tax allowance that might be provided by the Flagship Programme in the future could help SJMC achieve its growth target by contributing to the hospitals expansion and introduction of digital technologies .
“ We ’ re planning to bring the hospital bed capacity from the current 443 to about 700 or 750 as we have a very high occupancy rate and we need additional beds ,” said Lin .
He added that more resources would also be invested in digital technology to complement existing capabilities . Last uly , the hospital launched Connected Care , a system that allows hospital staff to monitor patients remotely and check that those recently discharged are progressing well or the elderly are in good health . One example of remote care is the use of certified medical devices that can check peoples vitals , including blood pressure , oxygen , and sugar levels , while sending the data into a system at SMC that alerts staff when any abnormalities are detected so they can reach out to people in need .
“ It ’ s an ecosystem we ’ re building to look at ways to bring healthcare closer to the community ,” he said .
And Connected Care is ust the first step . SMC will launch new remote monitoring services in the future to support both people in need of medical care and those who simply want to stay healthy .
“ We ’ re looking at digital technology to help boost and position our hospital as one of the leading hospitals in terms of medical tourism ,” stressed Lin .
