Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital Programme

Subang Jaya Medical Centre

Expansion plans and digitalisation will drive its medical tourism growth
“ Our goal is to grow by 30 percent from 2019 to 2025 , and so far we are on track .”

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council ( MHTC ) Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital Programme is an opportunity for Subang Jaya Medical Centre ( SJMC ) to further collaborate with healthcare stakeholders and grow its medical tourism business while helping establish Malaysia as a globally renowned healthcare destination .

That ’ s according to SJMC ’ s CEO , Bryan Lin , who stresses that the hospital has constantly focused on the three pillars of the Flagship Programme medical excellence , service excellence , and international branding . Being a finalist in the race will only help the medical centre enhance its appeal among international patients .
For instance , SJMC is one of the few hospitals in Malaysia that publish data about treatment outcomes , showing that its success rates in the treatment of diseases like breast cancer are comparable to the most reputable hospitals in the US or Singapore , Lin explained . The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council
consultants that assessed SJMC for the Flagship Programme recognised its quality of care but recommended more efforts in international branding . “ We don ’ t shout loud enough , we don ’ t share our clinical excellence or expertise globally ,” he added .
That ’ s why the management at SJMC is planning to raise the hospital ’ s visibility in key medical tourism markets , like Indonesia , by creating attractive content on social media , appointing local agents to facilitate medical travel , and setting up representative oces overseas . In addition , SMC has established collaborations with several hospitals and insurance companies in Southeast Asia . For instance , a group of SJMC doctors recently visited a hospital in Cambodia to share their medical capabilities and help local physicians improve patient care .
“ We signed Memorandums of Understanding with hospitals in Cambodia and Myanmar to facilitate patient referral to SJMC ,” said Lin .
