In this issue , we cover the annual conference organised by Global Health Asia-Pacific and the 2023 GlobalHealth Asia-Pacific Healthcare & Hospital Awards .
The conference revolved around promising innovations that could significantly improve clinical care such as artificial intelligence ( AI ) and liquid biopsy .
Dr Ravi Shrestha , General Manager and Senior Director of Global Healthcare IT at Canon Medical System Corporation , explained how AI is shaping the future of the healthcare . Indeed , the technology has already proved it can outperform physicians in diagnosing several conditions thanks to its superior ability to analyse imaging test results . In addition , AI could also play a key role in drug discovery by processing massive amounts of data .
Dr Brian Supawut Kunakom , a naturopathic consultant at Esperance Integrative Cancer Clinic in Thailand , touted the benefits of innovative blood tests to detect several types of cancer early . A technique called liquid biopsy , it promises to speed up cancer diagnosis by providing a simple and minimally invasive way to detect cancer cells in the bloodstream .
The gala night saw some of the top hospitals in the Asia-Pacific region receive awards for the quality of their services in a wide range of categories , from oncology and cardiology to fertility and ophthalmology .
Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Subang Jaya Medical Centre were crowned as Hospital of the Year in Asia-Pacific and Standout Jury Award - Hospital of the Year in Asia-Pacific for their comprehensive medical services .
A special mention goes to the Thomas Masterson Healthcare Pioneer of the Year in Asia-Pacific , which was awarded to Dr Jacob Thomas for his significant contribution to the development of the healthcare in Malaysia . The new award honours the memory of Thomas Masterson , the late founder of Global Health Asia-Pacific magazine , whose vision helped us get that far . Thank you Tom !
