In this issue , we cover the 2023 GlobalHealth Asia- Pacific Medical Centre and Aesthetic Awards , which took place at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Bali on May 26 and 27 and saw a lively conference followed by the awards ceremony .
Some of the key speakers at the conference were Syarifah Liza Munira , the Indonesian Deputy Minister for Health Policy Agency , Nurhadi Yudiyantho , Group CEO and Managing Director of Bundamedik Healthcare System , Farizal Jaafar , Acting CEO of Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council ( MHTC ), Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh , President of the Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia , and Dr Timothy Low , CEO and board member at Farrer Park Hospital in Singapore .
The deputy minister said the Indonesian government was aiming to strengthen the health system by improving health literacy and primary prevention . She added authorities were also boosting Bali ’ s medical tourism credentials through a collaboration with the Mayo Clinic to build an international hospital that will cater to both local and overseas patients .
Farizal explained how the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the digitalisation of the healthcare , a key trend that is believed to reshape the provision of care while also boosting medical tourism .
The gala night saw more than 90 clinics receive awards for the quality of their services in a wide range of categories , from oncology and cardiology to aesthetic treatment and dental care .
Two awards are particularly worth mentioning — Long Covid Centre of Excellence in Asia-Pacific and Endometriosis Service Provider of the Year in Asia-Pacific , which were given to Miskawaan Health Group and Dr Sharifah Clinic for Women and Laparoscopic Surgery .
Both conditions have been neglected and underdiagnosed , with more research needed to help patients cope with the pain and difficulties associated with them . We hope these awards will help raise awareness of such unmet needs .
