In its 35 years of operation , Subang Jaya Medical Centre ( SJMC ) has made a name for itself as one of the leading healthcare providers in the region by upholding the highest standards of care and safety .
This feat has been recognised by the Joint Commission International , a world-renowned healthcare accreditation organisation that reissued SJCM ’ s seal of approval in November 2019 .
“ The accreditation by the world ’ s foremost healthcare accreditor is a recognition of SJMC ’ s efforts in demonstrating a deep commitment to high-quality care , a culture of safety for patients , visitors , and staff , a care delivery based on leading , evidencebased practices , and leadership in continuous compliance with exacting standards ,” Trish Hogan , the hospital ’ s CEO , told Global Health Asia-Pacific .
The 444-bed tertiary care hospital is the flagship facility of the healthcare conglomerate Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care ( RSDH ) and is located in the bustling area of Subang Jaya , about a 30-minute drive to both Kuala Lumpur city centre and Kuala Lumpur International Airport .
It ’ s not surprising that both local and overseas patients flock to SJMC , which is staffed with roughly 200 internationally trained specialists , many of whom are key opinion leaders in their fields and widely known in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific .
A dedicated team is always available to guide international patients through the treatment process by helping them find the right doctor , book appointments , arrange accommodations , obtain a visa , and translate medical recommendations .
“ Patient-centred care is at the core of the services provided to patients and family members . We understand that delivering outstanding and compassionate patient care means putting the patient first and treating the patient as an individual ,” stressed Hogan .
To cater to both local and international patients during the pandemic , RSDH launched a virtual consultation platform , Telehealth Plus , at a time when social distancing and non-essential contact were just becoming the norm . It focuses on providing patients healthcare access from their homes for continuity of care and more positive outcomes .
The hospital houses several centres of excellence like the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Centre , where intracranial arterial thrombolysis , angioplasty , and stenting were first performed in Southeast Asia to treat a stroke patient .
SJMC has also pioneered a number of safety practices by implementing a safety programme that encourages staff to challenge potentially risky behaviours . This includes a feedback platform where anyone can file a confidential report on unsafe behaviours to set in motion a process that reviews it . Such programmes are part of the hospital ’ s efforts to ensure patients receive the care and support they need through every stage of their health journey .
In addition , a quality committee oversees all aspects of the provision of care , including safe and accurate medications , prescriptions , therapeutics , and environmental safety and health .
The hospital follows the concept of “ integrated healthcare ,” where end-toend patient care is guaranteed from registration to discharge , including multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary coordination and teamwork .
Despite its achievements , SJMC is continuously striving for improvements and upgrades to enhance patient experience .
“ We had developed a clinical services plan to guide SJMC for the next 5 to 10 years ,” said Hogan . “ We ’ re now implementing that plan to better service our customers and have all the facilities and technology required to deliver those services to the highest standards .”
