Oxford Orthopaedics , conveniently located in Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Mount Alvernia Hospital in Singapore , is led by Dr James Wee , Medical Director and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon . Dr Wee is the only orthopaedic surgeon in Singapore with a dual subspeciality in both hip and knee surgery and foot and ankle surgery , providing him with the insight and expertise of a complete lower limb surgeon , from minimally invasive procedures to complex limb lengthening and reconstruction surgery .
Dr James Wee obtained his M . B . B . S ( Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery ) degree from the National University of Singapore in 2005 , having been placed on the Dean ’ s list with the Ivan Polunin Gold Medal . He completed his postgraduate specialist training in orthopaedic surgery and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh ( F . R . C . S . Edinburgh ) in 2015 .
He was subsequently appointed as a consultant in orthopaedic surgery with Tan Tock Seng Hospital ( TTSH ) and has the unique distinction of having served as a consultant with two different subspeciality units at TTSH , namely , the Hip & Knee Adult Reconstruction and Foot & Ankle Surgery services . Dr Wee currently serves as a Visiting Consultant at TTSH .
At the vanguard in minimally invasive surgery ( MIS ), Dr Wee is one of the only surgeons in Singapore skilled in arthroscopic “ keyhole ” triple fusion surgery for treating complex foot deformities . He is experienced in MIS “ keyhole ” bunion and hammer toe sur-

gery , and co-developed the novel MIS “ Lasso ” Technique for ankle ligament reconstruction ( single 1cm incision ).
He also received extensive training from the inventor-surgeons of the Oxford Partial Knee System , and witnessed first-hand in Oxford University hospitals how minimally invasive partial knee replacement resulted in less pain after surgery , with safer , faster and better recovery compared to total knee replacements . Patients also benefited from a more naturalfeeling knee with better movement after undergoing partial knee replacement . As a high-volume partial knee replacement surgeon in Singapore , Dr Wee has also trained many surgeons in the Oxford Partial Knee Replacement system .
Dr James Wee is also skilled in advanced surgical techniques such as Robot-assisted Total Knee Replace- ment ( Mako , ROSA ) and Direct Anterior Approach ( DAA ) Hip Replacement . His special interests in foot and ankle surgery include complex trauma , sports injuries , degenerative conditions , and neurological problems .
Dr James Wee has a keen interest in the field of limb reconstruction surgery , which includes limb lengthening and limb deformity correction surgeries . He was trained in using Ilizarov techniques and computerassisted Hexapod technology at renowned centres in Austria , Italy and South Africa . He has accrued considerable experience in treating complex cases involving short limbs , congenital deformities , severe trauma and deep infections .
Dr James Wee has been very active in postgraduate medical training and was appointed as a faculty member of the NHG-AHPL Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Programme , training surgical residents through their specialisation in orthopaedic surgery . He is also regularly invited as a speaker in a multitude of international surgical conferences , is well-published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and is a journal reviewer for various scientific publications .
Harnessing his synergistic expertise in both hip and knee and foot and ankle surgery , Dr Wee pioneered and led the establishment of the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Surgery ( LLRS ) service in Tan Tock Seng Hospital .
