obstetricians , our state of the art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit ( NICU ) cares for some of the extremely premature and high risk babies in the country .
“ We can manage six very sick babies in our NICU and nurse another 10 babies in our Special Care Nursery ( SCN ). The NICU is a designated level-III neonatal intensive care setting , which offers immediate access to a full range of neonatal and surgical emergencies . It cares for babies born before 32 weeks gestation , weighing less than 1500 grams or other high risk conditions , namely hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy , septicaemia or congenital surgical conditions like diaphragmatic hernia or intestinal obstruction . Our NICU provides a full range of intensive neonatal monitoring , invasive and non-invasive respiratory support , augmented with high frequency oscillatory ventilation , nitric oxide and continuous cerebral monitoring .
We have published the favourable outcomes of our micro-preemies , very low birth weight babies and the affordable cost of intensive care . Two renowned and experienced neonatologists , Dato ’ Dr Musa Mohd Nordin and Datuk Dr Mohammad Iqbal Mohammad Sarwar , anchor the NICU with a highly trained and proficient neonatal nursing team under Sister Rohaidah .
