OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY MEDICAL CENTRE OF THE YEAR IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC

QUEK OG / COSMETIC GYNAECOLOGY CLINIC
Dr Quek Yek Song ’ s obstetrics and gynaecology clinic at the Columbia Asia Hospital in Malaysia takes a holistic approach to treatment by customising its services to each individual ’ s need while providing a fusion between the traditional practice of O & G and cosmetic gynaecological art . This , Dr Quek says , is what makes his clinic special and different from others in the field .
His vast experience comes from many years of service at Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru and the University Malaya Medical Centre as a specialist and clinical lecturer . From these two state and national excellence medical centers , he was able to explore and master skills in obstetric care , ultrasound scans , gynaecological operations , laparoscopic surgery , and fertility treatments .
His deep experience in laparoscopic surgery included robotic surgery at the World Laparoscopic Hospital , India and winning the ‘ TOP GUN ’ competition and award . For Dr Quek , there is no end to the search for solutions and treatments for women , a philosophy that has led him to learn different procedures and surgical skills in cosmetic gynaecology . For example , he created and published a non-suture method for skin closures and a new surgical method to correct diastasis retic ( stomach muscle separation ) during Caesarean sections . Given his varied training and experience , he is regularly invited as an international speaker and faculty member to share his new ideas .
Currently , he is bringing new laser

therapies and treatments to such challenging issues as vaginal atrophy , vaginal or uterine prolapse , and urinary incontinence to the Columbia Asia Hospital Iskandar Puteri and Columbia Asia Hospital Tebrau . Laser therapy is a non-invasive day therapy that does not require any pre-operative preparation or fasting . With the new approach , women can be more pro-active in overcoming these issues without going through invasive procedures .
Another new treatment is Platelet Rich Plasma ( PRP ) injections , which can also be used to treat scars , urinary incontinence , and vaginal atrophy . PRP therapies mimic the physiological healing process that can trigger rejuvenation and promote better healing . As an adjunct senior clinical lecturer at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences , Monash University Malaysia , Dr Quek meticulously documents and collects new treatment data and outcomes for future presentations and publications .
“ This award is a great encouragement for me to move forward and do better . I love learning new ideas and enjoy my field of specialisation . At the same time , I wish to achieve great things and give back to communities ,” he said .
When performing an operation , Dr Quek not only follows conventional approaches to surgery , he also looks for new ways to solve a patient ’ s issues by adopting new ideas and methods , such as injections , lasers , and rejuvenation to recover or enhance function in order to bring about better outcomes .
“ We don ’ t just want to complete the task , we also want to add value by making recovery as natural as possible or perhaps even return it back to the original state , if possible ,” he said .
For this approach to work , Dr Quek constantly upgrades his knowledge , especially new skills and findings , and he pledges to maintain the highquality services he offers while also reaching out into the community to provide pro-active public health awareness .
“ Women ’ s perceptions and perspectives toward quality of life have advanced to a higher level . Instead of living a life , as a gynaecologist , we shall work together with women to savour the flavour of life ,” he said .
